Soccer fans across the United State can soon rejoice, as Electronic Arts will release the next installment in the widely popular FIFA soccer video game franchise on Sept. 28.
The new title, FIFA Soccer 11, will feature Brazilian superstar Kaka, Arsenal's Carlos Vela and American playmaker Landon Donovan on its cover. This will be Donovan's third time appearing on the cover.
"Landon is the most recognizable, popular and accomplished soccer player in the United States, and he was at his best with the world watching during the 2010 FIFA World Cup," said Matt Bilbey, vice president of soccer for EA Sports.
Gamers who connect their consoles to an HD TV, LED monitor or HDMI projector can play as Donovan and the rest of the American World Cup squad in pristine, high-quality graphics.
FIFA 11 has taken the strengths of last year's edition, which won 50 sports game of the year awards, and improved on its weaknesses. Featured in the new video game are authentic player personalities, as well as a new "Pro Passing" system.
The 2010 World Cup tournament, which took place this summer in South Africa, has created a buzz for soccer throughout the U.S. American sales for the new video game may see significant increases after a strong showing by the U.S. team during the global sporting event.
