Company sees 3.3 point increase and continues to sell more than all other competitors combined

Washington, DC --- August 4, 2009 --- SMART Technologies announces it has increased its interactive whiteboard category share in the United States to 63.4 percent in the second quarter of 2009. This figure represents an increase of 3.3 percentage points over first quarter results. Once again, SMART has been recognized as the undisputed category leader in the United States, which is particularly noteworthy as the United States continues to be the largest and fastest growing market for interactive whiteboards in the world. In Q2, a total of 101,504 interactive whiteboards were sold in the United States, with 64,414 coming from SMART. The data comes from Futuresource Consulting, a leading independent global research company that has tracked interactive whiteboard sales for more than nine years. Futuresource predicts that over 320,000 interactive whiteboards will be sold in the United States in 2009, the biggest year ever forecast for the country.

Globally, SMART has an interactive whiteboard category share of 52.8 percent – 2.6 percentage points higher than the first quarter, more than twice the share of its nearest competitor and more than all competitors combined. SMART’s sales are strong across all major geographies around the world. Second quarter results confirmed the company achieved an 84 percent share in Canada, 71.7 percent share in Mexico, 57.5 percent share in the UK and 50.6 per cent share in Australia and New Zealand combined. In France, SMART increased its category share by 22.2 points to secure 36.2 percent of the market. Similarly in Brazil, the company’s share rose by 18.8 points to 35.3 percent. SMART continues to be the leading interactive whiteboard provider in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and in Asia-Pacific. More than two million interactive whiteboards are now installed worldwide, and the product category continues to exhibit strong growth. Futuresource noted that 557,000 interactive whiteboards were shipped in 2008, a 32 percent increase over 2007. The consulting firm forecasts that the global installed base will triple over the next five years to more than seven million, which means that one out of every five classrooms worldwide will have an interactive whiteboard. SMART has installed over 1.2 million SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards in 175 countries, and more than 25 million students worldwide benefit from the products every day.

“SMART continues to be recognized as the leading provider of interactive whiteboards in the United States – a significant achievement in the world’s fastest growing market,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s CEO. “Educators and business people alike understand that SMART has the most comprehensive offering of any interactive whiteboard company, including outstanding products, resources, professional development and support, and these results show they are rewarding us with their business.”
